Available Wholesaler and Distributor Coverages

Tenant Improvements

Tenant improvements coverage covers permanently attached property on the rented premises that were installed or purchased by the insured.  Under wholesaler and distributor insurance, we recommend a tenant improvements limit that is based on the value of the improvements.

Business Property (Contents)

Business property coverage, also known as contents coverage, covers loose property on the insured premises. For a wholesaler and distributor policy, we recommend a contents limit that is based on the value of this property.

Off-Premises Property

Off-Premises property coverage covers property away from the insured premises. Under distributor and wholesaler insurance, we recommend an off-premises limit that is based on the value of the property that could be taken off the insured premises.

Tenant's Glass

Typically the building owner covers glass damage, however, some leases require that the tenant cover glass damage, which tenant’s glass coverage covers. Under a distributor and wholesaler policy, we recommend a tenant’s glass limit that is based on the value of the windows at the insured location.

Employee Dishonesty

Employee dishonesty covers embezzlement of company funds. For wholesaler and distributor insurance, we recommend an employee dishonesty limit that is based on the company funds exposed to embezzlement.

Business Income

Business income coverage replaces lost income if a covered loss renders the shop uninhabitable. Additional coverage is available for power outages. Under a wholesaler and distributor policy, we recommend a business income limit that is based on the income that could be lost over the period of time that could be required to repair the insured location.

Product Recall

Product recall coverage covers expenses associated with withdrawing or recalling products due to a defect that could cause injuries or damage. Recommended under a distributor and wholesaler policy policy is a product recall limit that is based on the potential costs of withdrawing or recalling products.

Equipment Breakdown

Equipment breakdown coverage provides coverage for mechanical breakdown, electrical or electronic breakdown, or rupture, bursting, bulging, implosion, or steam explosion of covered equipment that results in direct physical loss or damage resulting from a covered cause of loss. This does not cover wear and tear.

Brands and Labels

Brands and labels coverage pays cost to re-label merchandise to comply with the law after a covered loss.  


Spoilage coverage covers product that is spoiled after mechanical breakdown or failure of refrigeration equipment. For wholesaler and distributor insurance, we recommend a spoilage limit that is based on the value of the products that could spoil.

General Liability

General liability coverage primarily protects your company financially if held responsible for trip and slip-type injuries. For a wholesaler and distributor policy, at least $1,000,000 general liability coverage is recommended.

Personal and Advertising Injury

Personal and advertising injury coverage primarily covers defamation and copyright/trademark infringement. Under distributor and wholesaler insurance, a personal and advertising limit of at least $1,000,000 is recommended.

Product Liability

Product liability coverage covers injuries or property damage caused by products sold. A product liability limit of at least $1,000,000 is recommended under a distributor and wholesaler policy.

Cyber Liability

Cyber liability coverage primarily covers data breach that results in a loss of confidential data as well as inadvertent transmission of malware. This coverage is recommended if working with confidential data such as social security numbers or payment information.

Employee Benefits Liability

Employee benefits coverage covers mismanagement of benefits. This would provide coverage if, for example, an employee holds the company responsible for a major medical expense they expected to be covered under the company health insurance plan. An employee benefits limit of at least $1,000,000 is recommended under a wholesaler and distributor insurance.

Employment Practices Liability

Employment practices liability insurance coverage (EPLI) covers claims of discrimination, wrongful discipline/termination, harassment, breach of (implied) contract, failure to employ or promote, deprivation of opportunity, and infliction of emotional stress made by employees. Third-party coverage is available to cover claims of discrimination and harassment made by customers, vendors, etc. Keep in mind that even if there is no basis for a claim, defending these claims can be expensive, and this coverage will pay defense costs.

Employer Liability (Stop Gap)

Washington is one of a few states where workers compensation insurance is provided by the state. Although this covers employees when they are injured on the job, unlike coverage provided by private insurers, it does not offer coverage if employees hold your company responsible. This could happen if the employee is not satisfied with the coverage provided by the state. Employer liability (stop gap) coverage fills this coverage gap. An employer liability limit of at least $1,000,000 is recommended under a wholesaler and distributor policy.

Hired and Non-Owned Auto

Covers your company if held responsible for injuries or property damage sustained in an accident. Hired auto offers coverage while driving vehicles that are borrowed or rented for company business, or paid for using company funds. Non-owned auto offers coverage while employees (including owners) are driving their own personal vehicles for company business. For distributor and wholesaler insurance, a hired and non-owned auto limit of at least $1,000,000 is recommended.
